About This Course:
As the U.S. population lives longer, it is more essential than ever to create building systems specifically to serve the health, safety and wellness of the older generation. It is also important for residents to feel safe, and incorporating the proper design elements and materials is going to help give seniors the peace of mind. In this learning program, the key design elements and factors for various types of senior housing options will be discussed, based on the two core concepts – geriatrics and gerontology, which refer to the medical aspects of aging and the health of seniors, and the physical, social and psychological well-being of the seniors, respectively.As the U.S. population lives longer, it is more essential than ever to create building systems specifically to serve the health, safety and wellness of the older generation. Learning Objective 1
This learning program will offer a walk-through of the key design elements and factors for the various types of senior living facilities, which include independent living, residential care homes, respite services, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and retirement community.
Learning Objective 2
Examples of design elements will be discussed as to how they can provide a safe, healthy and comfortable environment, such as preventing falls, limitations of sight and hearing, eliminating stairs, transitions. Attendees will also understand the importance of exercising practicality and flexibility in design.
Learning Objective 3
Attendees will learn about the different types of amenities of the senior living facilities, and how they can be designed to become safe, secure, functional and versatile environments.
Learning Objective 4
Attendees will learn about the key elements of designing a safe, convenient and comfortable outdoor environment for the seniors. Landscaping design will also be discussed.
